Kindergarten in 1967

Not much is documented on a standard Kindergarten curriculum in the 1960’s. Its primary goal was to prepare children for school. While letters and numbers were introduced, it was during playful activities designed to acclimate young children to the school environment. This is the shoe that students used to master their shoe tying technique.

Each letter of the alphabet had a distinct characteristic to help children learn not only the letter but the sound the letter represents in the written word. For example, Mister M has a munching mouth, Mister N has a noisy nose and Mister T has tall teeth.
